Why We Created This Itinerary

Three years ago, we decided to rethink the way people travel to Kenya.

Whenever we approached local operators to plan a Kenya trip, almost every itinerary looked identical. Fly into Nairobi > head to Masai Mara > and fly back home. It didn't matter whether you were a six-year-old child or a sixty-five-year-old retiree. Everyone experienced Kenya the same way.

We understand why these itineraries exist. If you're a wildlife photographer or someone who dreams of spending twelve hours a day inside the jungle waiting for the perfect sighting, this style of travel makes perfect sense.

But it wasn't the Africa we were looking for.

So we made a decision.

If we were ever going to Kenya, we would create our own way of experiencing it.

We booked our flights, travelled across East Africa, explored places beyond the usual tourist circuit, and spent weeks piecing together an itinerary that felt young, energetic and full of life.

We had built an itinerary across two countries, Kenya and Tanzania, where Masai Mara forms only about 20 percent of the journey.

The remaining eighty percent takes you through landscapes and experiences that most traditional Kenya itineraries completely miss.

This itinerary wasn't created by sitting in an office and rearranging destinations on a map.

It was built on the ground, after travelling through East Africa ourselves, questioning what could be done differently, and creating the kind of journey we wished existed. That's why, even today, it remains one of the most unique ways to experience Kenya and Tanzania together.

🇰🇪 DAY-1 (Sat, 07-Nov)

Welcome to Kenya

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Nairobi, any time before 1:30 PM. Once everyone has arrived, we'll transfer to our hotel, freshen up, and head out to begin our East African adventure.
For many first-time visitors, Nairobi is full of surprises. Rather than the fast-paced atmosphere many expect, you'll find a modern city with wide roads, green spaces, a pleasant climate, and a much more relaxed pace than many large Asian cities.
Since you've just arrived after a long journey, we'll ease into the trip with a visit to Mamba Village, home to the largest crocodile farm in East Africa. More than just a crocodile park, it's an important conservation and education centre where you'll see crocodiles of all ages—from tiny hatchlings to enormous adults that have lived here for decades. The centre is also home to several other native reptiles.
Our next stop is one of Nairobi's best-known conservation projects—the Giraffe Centre. Did you know there are four species of giraffes, each with its own unique coat pattern? The centre is dedicated to protecting the endangered Rothschild's giraffe, and the raised feeding platform lets you observe these gentle giants up close and even hand-feed them.
We'll return to our hotel by evening and get some rest. Tomorrow, we leave the city behind and begin our journey into Kenya's vast wilderness.

🇰🇪 DAY-2 (Sun, 08-Nov)

Into the Great Rift Valley

Today, we leave the city behind and begin our journey into Kenya's wilderness.
After breakfast, we'll check out from our hotel and switch to our custom-built safari vehicles. Designed specifically for wildlife safaris, these vehicles feature a pop-up roof, giving everyone an uninterrupted view during our game drives over the coming days.
As we leave Nairobi and head north, keep an eye on the landscape around you. It won't be long before you spot zebras or gazelles grazing beside the highway. For many first-time visitors, it's a surprising sight. By the end of the trip, however, you'll realise just how naturally wildlife coexists with everyday life in Kenya.
Do you remember learning about tectonic plates in school? Just as the collision of plates gave rise to the Himalayas, the slow separation of the African Plate created the Great Rift Valley—a geological feature stretching nearly 6,000 kilometres across East Africa. Kenya is home to one of its most dramatic sections, where volcanic peaks, escarpments, lakes, and geothermal landscapes all come together within a relatively short distance.
Our first stop is Hell's Gate National Park, one of the few parks in Kenya where you can explore by bicycle instead of a safari vehicle. Riding through the valley alongside grazing zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles, and antelopes is a completely different experience from a traditional game drive.
You'll also come across Fischer's Tower, a striking volcanic rock formation that many believe inspired the iconic Pride Rock from The Lion King.
After the cycling experience, we'll continue our drive through the Rift Valley to Nakuru, where we'll spend the night and prepare for our first safari the following day.

Lake Nakuru Safari & the Story of Elsa

Our first full safari begins with an early breakfast before we head into Lake Nakuru National Park. Set around one of the Rift Valley's famous alkaline lakes, the park is home to white and black rhinos, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, waterbucks, Rothschild's giraffes, and, if we're fortunate, lions and leopards. The lake itself also attracts thousands of flamingos, pelicans, and numerous other bird species throughout the year.
One of the biggest advantages of travelling in dedicated safari vehicles is the freedom they offer. One moment we're cruising on smooth highways, and the next we're navigating dirt tracks deep inside the national park, searching for wildlife. Every game drive is different, and while our guides know where animals are often seen, nature always has the final say. Every sighting is a bonus, making each safari unique.
After our morning game drive, we'll leave Lake Nakuru behind and continue towards Lake Naivasha, home to one of our favourite stays in Kenya.
We'll spend the night at Elsamere Lodge, the former home of conservationists Joy and George Adamson. If the names sound familiar, Joy Adamson was the author of Born Free, the remarkable story of Elsa, an orphaned lioness they raised before successfully reintroducing her into the wild. Their work became one of the world's most influential conservation stories and helped change how people viewed wildlife conservation.
Set on the peaceful shores of Lake Naivasha, the lodge is a wonderful place to unwind after the day's safari. Take a stroll through the gardens, enjoy the lakeside views, and soak in the history of a place that played a small but significant role in African wildlife conservation.

🇰🇪 DAY-4 (Tue, 10-Nov)

On the Water & Into the Mara

We'll begin the day with a boat safari on Lake Naivasha, offering a completely different wildlife experience from yesterday's game drive. Out here, there are no safari vehicles or protective steel frames—just a small boat gliding quietly across the lake, bringing you much closer to nature.
The lake is home to a remarkable variety of birdlife. Keep an eye out for African fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, and many other water birds. Some are so accustomed to boats that they may even perch nearby, giving you a closer look than you'd ever expect.
And then there are the hippos. They may spend most of their day quietly submerged, but don't let their calm appearance fool you. Hippos are among Africa's most territorial animals and are responsible for more human fatalities than many large predators. During one of our previous trips, we learnt just how quickly they can become protective when our boat ventured a little too close. It's a reminder that we're visitors in their home, and our experienced boat captain always knows the safe distance to maintain.
After the boat safari, we'll return to the lodge for breakfast before checking out and beginning our drive towards Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya's most iconic safari destination.
Tonight, we'll stay at a lodge just outside the reserve, allowing us to relax after the long drive before the real safari adventure begins.
From tomorrow onwards, we'll move to our accommodation inside the Masai Mara National Reserve. Staying within the reserve means we'll be closer to the wildlife and can make the most of our game drives over the next two days.
Get a good night's rest—because the next two days are dedicated entirely to exploring one of Africa's greatest wildlife destinations in search of the legendary Big Five.

🇰🇪 DAY-5 (Wed, 11 Nov)

A Full Day in the Masai Mara

Today is all about the safari.
After an early breakfast, we'll pack our lunch and spend the entire day exploring the vast grasslands of the Masai Mara National Reserve in search of Africa's famous Big Five—the lion, leopard, African elephant, Cape buffalo, and rhinoceros.
But a safari is never just about ticking animals off a list. The Mara is also home to large populations of cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and countless other species. Every game drive is different, and no two days in the reserve are ever the same.
From our previous trips, we've found that spotting lions, elephants, giraffes, and zebras is often more common than people expect. Rhinos and leopards, however, require a little more patience—and a bit of luck. If fortune is on our side, we may even witness one of nature's most dramatic moments: a predator on the hunt. It's something no itinerary can promise, but an experience few ever forget.
Throughout the safari, we'll remain inside our vehicles except at designated safe areas identified by our guide. Around midday, we'll stop at one of these locations to enjoy our packed lunch before continuing the search for more wildlife.
As the golden light begins to spread across the savannah, we'll make our way back to our lodge inside the Masai Mara National Reserve, our home for the next two nights. Staying within the reserve lets us start our safaris early the next day, avoid the morning rush at the park gates, and spend more time where the wildlife truly belongs—the African wilderness.

🇰🇪 DAY-6 (Thu, 12 Nov)

Another Day in the Wild

One day in the Masai Mara is never enough. Every game drive unfolds differently, and that's the beauty of the African wilderness.
After an early breakfast, we'll once again head into the reserve with packed lunches, spending another full day tracking the incredible wildlife that calls the Masai Mara home. Perhaps today is the day we finally spot that elusive leopard resting on a tree, a family of elephants crossing the plains, or a pride of lions beginning their morning patrol.
There's no fixed route or guaranteed sightings in a safari. Our experienced guides stay in constant communication with other rangers and drivers, increasing the chances of locating recent wildlife activity while also relying on years of experience reading the landscape.
We'll stop at a safe designated area inside the reserve to enjoy our packed lunch before continuing our search across the vast savannahs. Every hour brings something new—whether it's a cheetah scanning the horizon, a herd of wildebeest stretching endlessly across the plains, or simply the peaceful rhythm of life in the African wilderness.
By sunset, we'll return to our lodge inside the reserve, ending another unforgettable day in one of the world's greatest wildlife destinations.

A Farewell to the Mara

This morning marks our final moments in the Masai Mara.
After breakfast, we'll check out of our lodge by 9:00 AM and visit a traditional Maasai village. The Maasai are one of East Africa's most iconic communities, known for their distinctive red shuka attire, rich traditions, and semi-nomadic way of life. During the visit, you'll gain a firsthand understanding of their culture, social structure, and daily life. You'll also have the opportunity to purchase handmade beadwork and crafts directly from the community.
For those looking to make the morning even more memorable, there's an optional hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara. Floating silently above the savannah at sunrise offers a completely different perspective of the reserve. Please note that participants opting for the balloon safari will not be able to join the Maasai village visit.
By around 12:00 PM, everyone will regroup outside the reserve, after which we'll begin our drive back to Nairobi.
By evening, we'll arrive in the city and check into our hotel, bringing our unforgettable safari adventure to a close. Tomorrow, the journey continues with the next chapter of the trip.

From Crafts to Coast

Our final morning in Kenya is reserved for a bit of shopping before we leave the country. We'll visit the vibrant Maasai Market, one of the best places to pick up souvenirs and support local artisans. You'll find everything from handmade jewellery, wood carvings, paintings, and colourful East African fabrics to traditional curios and gifts to take home.
If time permits, we'll also enjoy a short walk through Nairobi before making our way to the airport.
This is where our group splits.
Participants joining the Safari Edition will be dropped at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for their onward journey home.
The rest of the group will board a flight to Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. Known for its turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and centuries of maritime history, Zanzibar offers a completely different side of East Africa.
After landing, we'll transfer to Stone Town, the historic heart of Zanzibar.

🇹🇿 DAY-9 (Sun, 15-Nov)

Tortoises, Turtles & Zanzibar's Coast

As you begin exploring Zanzibar today, you might notice something that feels a little familiar. That's because the island's culture is a unique blend of Swahili, Arab, and Indian influences, reflected in its food, architecture, and everyday life.
Our first stop is Prison Island, locally known as Changuu Island, about a 30-minute boat ride from Stone Town. Despite its name, the island was never used as a major prison. Instead, it later served as a quarantine station for people arriving with infectious diseases, including yellow fever.
Now, the island is best known for its population of Aldabra giant tortoises, some of which are over a century old. You'll have the opportunity to walk among these gentle giants, feed them, and learn about the conservation efforts that protect this remarkable species.
From there, we'll drive to Nungwi, at the northern tip of Zanzibar. Here we'll visit the Mnarani Marine Turtle Conservation Pond, a rehabilitation centre dedicated to rescuing and caring for injured sea turtles. Depending on the conditions, you can enter the water to swim alongside the turtles, feed them, and learn about the conservation work being carried out to protect these marine animals.
By evening, we'll head to our scenic beach resort, where you can relax by the shore and enjoy your first sunset on the island.

🇹🇿 DAY-10 (Mon, 16-Nov)

Beneath the Waves & Through Stone Town

We're on an island surrounded by the Indian Ocean, so today is all about experiencing what lies above and below its crystal-clear waters.
We'll begin the morning with a snorkelling trip to one of Zanzibar's most beautiful reefs, near Mnemba Island. The clear turquoise waters are home to colourful coral reefs, tropical fish, and a variety of marine life. Even if you're not a swimmer, there's no need to worry—life jackets are provided, making the experience enjoyable for everyone. If we're lucky, we may even spot wild dolphins along the way.
If you're looking for a little more adventure, you can optionally choose a scuba diving experience instead. Zanzibar is one of East Africa's popular diving destinations, with healthy coral reefs and abundant marine life. Please note that participants opting for scuba diving won't be able to join the snorkelling trip, as both activities take place at the same time.
By afternoon, we'll head to the iconic The Rock Restaurant, one of Zanzibar's most photographed landmarks. Built on a coral rock just offshore, the restaurant can be reached on foot during low tide, while a short boat ride is needed when the tide is high. Even if you're not planning a full meal, the unique setting alone makes it worth the visit.
By evening, we'll return to Stone Town, the historic heart of Zanzibar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A guided walking tour will take us through its maze of narrow alleys, intricately carved wooden doors, bustling bazaars, and buildings that reflect centuries of African, Arab, Indian, and European influences.
We'll end the day at the lively Forodhani Night Market, where the aroma of grilled seafood fills the air. It's the perfect place to try local favourites such as Zanzibar pizza, fresh seafood, and freshly pressed sugarcane juice before calling it a night.

What is Early bird cost?

The cost of accommodations and international flights from Nairobi to Zanzibar is generally lower when booked well in advance and tends to increase as the travel date approaches. The savings available at this stage are being passed on to you through the Early Bird pricing.

We will assist you to get your currency exchanged before your travel.
Yellow fever vaccination required for your travel to Kenya. We will share a detailed guide on how it can be taken from your nearest vaccination center.

First preference for solo participants and couples. However, there will be an additional sur-charge for couples requesting for a Double bedroom.
Generally, we don't allow group participation in any of our trips. However, you are permitted to bring along one of your friends or a family member with you.

We prefer that you book international flight tickets by yourself to take advantage of best possible rates and bank offers.
We will be sharing a detailed guide for booking the flight yourself. Kindly book flights only after you receive the flight booking detailed info document from CAC.

Airport pickup and drop will be arranged in batches based on the arrival and departure time of all participants.
At the time of confirmation, we will let you know which flights needs to be booked, so that the entire team travels together. We can help you if you really need any flight booking assistance.

All accommodations are double / triple sharing, separate for male and female participants.
Separate double rooms for couples can be arranged for all days at an additional cost. Contact us for details.
Accommodation types vary from hotels, safari lodges and resorts.

Vegetarian food will be available in almost all places during the trip.
Please note, we will strictly avoid visiting any Indian restaurants, as our schedule requires us to keep moving. We encourage everyone joining us to embrace and enjoy authentic local cuisine.

- Payment Schedule:
  - 1. First payment (For slot confirmation): ₹20,000
      - Until 15-Jul-2026: You can cancel the trip, and the advance payment can be transferred to other international trips, but not transferable to another person.
        From 16-Jul-2026 onwards: Advance payment is non-refundable and non-transferable.
    2. Second payment (By 15-Aug-2026): ₹30,000 (non-refundable and non-transferable)
    3. Third payment (By 15-Sep-2026): ₹30,000 (non-refundable and non-transferable)
    4. Balance payment to be settled during the trip in US Dollars.
- Option to pay the advance amounts through credit cards / wallets are also possible. Do request us at the time of payment.
- Payment details will be shared if you are shortlisted for the trip.
- We do have EMI option, but there will be processing fee and interest.

- Registration: If you are interested in joining this trip, please complete your registration by clicking on the link provided at the end of this itinerary.
- Invitation and Selection Process: Once you register, shortlisted participants will receive an official invitation to join the trip along with details for making the advance payment. Please note that the selection process is solely at the discretion of Coimbatore Adventure Club. If all slots are filled, we will notify you and place you on a waitlist.
- Advance Payment: Shortlisted participants will receive advance payment instructions. Your slot for the trip will be confirmed only upon successful payment of the advance.
- Flight Tickets: After your advance payment is processed and confirmed by us, you may proceed to book your flight tickets.
- Note: Registering for the trip via the provided link does not guarantee a slot. Confirmation is subject to the selection process and availability of slots.

➡️ Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation by participant:

- Advance paid during trip confirmation is strictly non-refundable at any circumstances, as we group book the transports, accommodations and activities. Also note that the advance payment will strictly be not transferrable to someone else or to a future trip, in case you are not joining the trip.
- Cancellations made within 15 days of the trip require participants to cover 75% of the total trip cost, since most bookings are confirmed and non-refundable by this stage. You will be required to settle the applicable amount. Please note that non-compliance may affect your eligibility for future trips with CAC.
- Exception: If for any reason your visa is rejected by Kenya Immigration, we will provide the complete refund of the trip cost paid by you (except the Visa cost).

Cancellation due to unforeseen situations beyond our control:

In the event of trip cancellations due to natural calamities or unforeseen circumstances (e.g., extreme weather, political unrest, or government-imposed restrictions)—essentially, any situation beyond CAC’s control—cancellation charges up to ₹5,000 will be non-refundable. The remaining amount can be fully transferred to rescheduled dates or applied to any other trip of your choice.

- Coimbatore Adventure Club reserves the right to remove any participant from the trip at any time if they engage in any illicit or inappropriate behavior. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all travelers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
